Rainbow Bridge - This is Daffodil's Story (passed on 04/21/10)

Daffodil was picked up by Animal Control and brought into the county shelter. The shelter placed her on the Euthanasia List and deemed her unsalvageable – and yes, it’s true she was in a very sad and sorry state. CCHS has our own little Angel Dede, who visits this particular shelter regularly, walks the rows, over and over, checking to make sure precious babies like Daffodil don’t get overlooked; and low and behold, she spotted Daffodil and got on the phone!

When the foster mom went to pick up Daffodil, she was huddled in the corner of the kennel, limp and lifeless. She was so filthy and matted, we couldn’t tell her, age, sex, or breed. She quietly approached her and knelt down beside her and offered her a hand to sniff. She slowly sniffed and then started wagging her tail and giving kisses. Well, that was all it took – she wrapped her in a towel and they were out of there!

Next stop, the groomers. CCHS has a wonderful Den of Angels at the MUTT PUDDLE in Mckinney, who takes care of our Fur Foster Babies with gentle, loving care. Daffodil was full of fleas, ticks, matts, dirt, twigs, stickers and burrs from head to foot. They pampered her like a Princess and handed her back several hours later, as pretty as a peach.

After that, we did an assessment, and discovered Daffodil was young little girl, as cute as a bug’s ear; but, sadly very malnourished and underweight. She weighed about 5 pounds. She needed to double her body weight to a healthy 10 lbs.

Daffodil was a sweet, gentle, calm quiet little soul. She seems to understand what her foster mom was doing for her and was forever grateful, loyal and always by her side. All she wanted from this world is to love and be loved.

Little Daffodil had to be shaved to the skin and her tail has been broken in two different places. Worst of all, sweet Daffodil had her skin flayed off her back leg from the weight of the matts - it literally torn the skin off her leg. Needless to say she needed lots of TLC.

Shortly there after she was adopted and we thought she had found the light at the end of the tunnel. A couple months later we received a call that she wasn't doing well (vomiting, seizures, anorexic and lethargic). By the time the adopters were able to get her to a vet it was too late. The vet decided it was in her best interest to be humanely put to sleep.

What never fails to astound us, is the capacity these rescued doggies have to love and to trust after the suffering they have endured. This little girl would sit in her foster mom's lap for hours on end wanting nothing more than to be held. Her heart is as big as Texas... and she will forever be in our hearts, memories and thoughts.

Thank you Robin W for taking her in and giving her all the love, attention, affection and care that this little girl deserved.
