Rainbow Bridge - This is Dylan's Story (passed on 03/26/10)
Dylan was owner surrendered to a local shelter in horrendous condition. A CCHS foster took him in and spent the next 3 months trying to get him back on track.
He was a senior dog with severe mange, warts covering his body, and very emaciated. After almost 3 months in foster care his hair growth had not progressed and his condition seemed to worsen (lack of coordination and only a weight gain of 11 lbs).
We then found out that he had a thyroid problem, but thought with this diagnosis (and proper medication) he would be on the start of a new recovery path and that his weight and hair would start improving soon.
Two weeks later Dylan became very ill, he had no appetite and was defecating while laying down. He was taken to the ER and put on IVs, heavy antibiotics and cage rest. 48 hour later it was decided that Dylan would be better off being humanly put to sleep as he was clearly suffering.
Dylan lived the best last three months of his life in the care of his foster mom Dede. He received more love and attention than he could have ever imagined in his years being chained to the backyard of his previous owners home.
We thank Dede and her family for giving him a wonderful end to his life. We wish you well Dylan and hope you are onto a better, happier life.
