Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Oscar
12 weeks old
Died June 6, 2010

Oscar was found stray in Ft Worth and brough to local animal control. He had mange on his face and was set to be put to sleep. A CCHS foster stepped up last minute to take him into her home.

He was doing great and coming along w/ his recovery from mange and slight cold. Sunday morning he turned his head up at breakfast and seemed lethargic. Arrangements were being made for treatment when he stopped breathing. Efforts were made to resuscitate him, but he was not strong enough to pull through

He death was sudden, unexpected and devastating to everyone involved. We are glad we were able to help give him a warm place to lay his head and the ability to die in a place where he was well loved and will not be forgotten.

Thank you Lori and Brendan for taking care of him and giving him a safe place to lay to rest.

We love you Oscar. Safe Journey over the Rainbow Bridge

Georgie
2 years old
Died 5/12/10

On April 29th, Georgie was found stray in Ft Worth. He was lifeless and has a mass the size of a grapefruit on his shoulder blade. He was taken to local animal control where they got him into the CCHS rescue group. Georgie was rushed to the vet. His blood work was off the charts, he had a huge mass, and his feces was so impacted that it would need to be surgically removed. It was determined that most importantly he needed an emergency blood transfusion. The vet at Parker Animal and Bird Clinic worked after hours to get the transfusion done and then we all waited until morning to see if he would make it through the night.

Not only did he make it through the night, but he was standing up and alert! The vet then decided it was time to remove the mass on this shoulder blade and impacted feces as he wasn't able to hold any food down with the blockage. He had surgery that afternoon and did great. The incision was SEVEN inches long to remove the mass!

Georgie was doing great and then his appetite slowly deteriorated. He looked to be digressing but then he began having bowl movements and eating again! We thought he was on the mend until the foster mom came home from the gym to find him dead in his crate.

Georgie died in a warm, loving home w/ the knowledge that he was loved and cared for. Thank you Stephanie for giving him a comfortable place in his last days w/ us. We did all we could to save him, but there were bigger and better plans for this sweet boy.

We love you Georgie

Died 5/03/10

Yoda was owner surrendered w/ his sister and mom to a shelter in Denton. He was adopted by a wonderful home but soon later started having neurological problems. The seizure progressed and the vet diagnosed Distemper.

Yoda was humanely put to sleep on 5/3/10 after it was decided that it was no longer humane to let him suffer the wrath of this horrible virus.

Thank you to the Pant family for giving him a loving home where he was able to die knowing that he was well loved and cared for.

Little Yoda Boy... we will always remember your sweet nature and beautiful spirit. Safe journey to the other side baby boy... we wish you well.

Died 5/7/10

Little Ava was owner surrendered w/ his siblings to a shelter in Arlington after her mom was hit by a car. She was taken into the CCHS adoption program where she was safe and sound awaiting a forever home.

Soon later Ava was adopted w/ her brother by a wonderful family... however the happiness was short lived after Ava started having neurological problems after given her boosters. The lose of coordination progressively worsened as the week went on and by weeks end it was decided that it was in her best interest to be humanely put to sleep.

Thank you Brenda and family for taking her into her home and loving her unconditionally.

Ava will forever live on in our hearts as the spunky little girl that charmed us all.

Polo
8 years old
Died March 30th, 2010

Polo was owner surrendered to a local shelter w/ his two younger sisters. They were taken in by rescue but Polo, being a senior, was not as desirable. He was left to be put to sleep but a CCHS foster stepped up last minute and took him into the CCHS adoption program.

Polo quickly proved to be stuck in his ways and not happy with his life. He was lashing out at people unpredictably and starting fights w/ the resident dogs for doing nothing more than walking in his path.

After three months of this behavior getting increasingly worse, it was decided that it was in his best interested to have him humanely euthanized as no amount of training would allow CCHS to safely re-home him w/ his level of unpredictability.

Thank you Tina and Will for giving him a wonderful last few months. He died with dignity and pride, knowing that he was well loved and will never be forgotten.

Rest in Peace Polo

Cassie
(Died 4/21/2010)

Cassie was owner surrendered to a local shelter. She was HW positive and had no vet history or training. She was out in the EU list due to take of space and CCHS stepped up to take her into foster care.

She was fully vetted and thriving in her foster home. Six weeks into foster care she started showing signs of distemper. It skipped the mucosal stage and went right to neurological. It was beleived that she caught the virus at the shelter when she was dumped w/o any vaccinations.

On April 21st, it was decided that it was no longer humane to keep her alive w/ the level of brain damage that the virus had taken over in the course of the next 14 days.

Cassie was laid to rest on April 21st. Thank you Brendan and Lori for taking her in and giving her to best 2 months of her life where she was loved, kept warm and well taken care of.

Cassie will forever hold a memory in the hears of the CCHS volunteers for her spunk and character.

Shelby
(Died 01/02/09)

Shelby was found in a junk yard in horrible condition. She was missing fur all over, emaciated and HW positive. One of our volunteers took her into her home and nursed her back to health. She was in foster care just under a year with the same family, when her landlord told her she was over her limit. The foster was able to find a new place for Shelby as a temporary setting until she could get her somewhere more permanent. Three weeks later, she received a call that she had been mauled by two other dogs and they were unable to save her.

She will truly be missed and has touched many lives in the year she was with Erica. We are glad she at least had an amazing last year of her life and was able to spend time with a family that loved and cared for her with all their hearts. Shelby will not be forgotten.

Fritz
(Died 01/15/09)

Fritz was owner surrendered to the Ft Worth Animal shelter after his owners relocated to one of those cities that doesn't allow dogs. He tested positive for heartworms and underwent treatment. He was neutered, recovered and all ready to start a new chapter in his life.

In December he started losing weight rapidly and the vet determined that he had kidney failure. They decided it would be best for him to be humanly euthanized instead of letting him suffer.

He was laid to rest on 1/15/09 and will be missed.

Thank you Kaci for giving him a wonderful for during his last month.

Nala
(Died 02/23/09)

Nala was found in the country w/ her mom and 2 other siblings. Because mom and her sisters looked like Pyrenees, they were quickly taken by Pyre rescue and Nala was left behind. CCHS took her into our adoption program where she was recovering from a nasty cold.

The cold got progressively worse. We feared the worst when her mom and one of her siblings were euthanized from the neurological damage caused by Distemper. We held out hope and did everything we could to save her.

With a heavy heart we had to make the decision to euthanize her on 2/23/09 because it was no longer humane to keep her alive in the state she was living.

She will be missed greatly and MANY thanks to Dede and her family for taking such good care of her and giving  her a great last couple weeks of her life.

Matilda
(Died 02/27/09)

Matilda was found stray and brought to the Collin County Animal shelter. No one ever came for her so she was brought into the CCHS adoption program where she was adopted by an amazing family.

A few months later we were contacted from her forever home. After extensive testing they found out she had a liver shunt. The surgery went okay, but soon after she began a to decline rapidly. They had to make the decision to humanely euthanize her because she was in so much pain.

Thank you Tiara, her foster mom, for taking such great care of her. Our condolences to Mario and Jeff for your loss. We know Matilda will be eternally thankful for the love and warmth that you gave her during her last months with you. You truly were her angles and she will not be forgotten.

Athena
(Died 03/23/09

Athena and her siblings were found stray and brought to the Ft Worth shelter. They were in horrible shape and needed medical attention asap. Dede, with CCHS stepped up to bring them under her wing.

Over the next few weeks the pups made amazing progress and appeared to be one the way to a full recovery. Athena had nasal discharge which progressively worsened as time went on and turned out to be the dreaded Distemper virus. Despite our best efforts in late March we decide it would be in her best interest to humanely euthanize her after the neurological stage of the disease took over.

Her bother and sister survived it all and have since been adopted! They are doing great in their forever homes and although Athena wasn't as lucky, she will never be forgotten.

Thanks Dede and her Family for taking in these kiddos.

Soon there after he began showing signs of distemper. The snotty nose quickly turned into neurological seizures and it was decided that it was no longer humane to allow him to suffer.

Curley was laid to rest in April knowing that he was cared for and will always have a place in our hearts. Thanks Carol for taking him in and giving him a great last few weeks of his life.

Jacobi and his brother Benny were owner surrendered to the Ft Worth shelter because the owners didn’t spay their dog and she had a litter of puppies. Their time was up, so CCHS pulled them from the shelter and brought them into the adoption program where waited for a forever home!

Soon later is was discovered that Jacobi and Benny had distemper virus.  Jacobi's went neurological and there was nothing we could do but let him go to the other side.  He was a sweet puppy that one day was fine and the next... gone.

He will be remembered and missed. Thank you Melissa L and Family for taking such good care of Jacobi. Please say a prayer for his brother Benny who is still fighting the virus daily.

Duncan was found stray and taken in by a kind stranger. Despite her best efforts to find his owners... no one stepped forward to claim him. CCHS was contacted to help find him a for ever home.

He tested positive for heartworms and was treated. During his period of bed rest he was lethargic but had no signs of distress. He died while his foster mom was at work due to the stress on his heart from the treatment.

Thank you Carol and Chris for taking him in an giving him a warm and loving place to spend the last few weeks of his life.

Bubba
(Died 5/25/09)

Bubba was found stray and brought to a local shelter. No one ever came for him so his time was up. He had a severe upper respiratory infection but overall was just a total love bug (a large love bug... but a love bug none the less).

As his URI stabilized, he started showing signs of something more severe... Parvo. He was rushed to the vet and put on an IV. 24 hours after being hospitalized, he died in his sleep. Fluids and antibiotics were no match for this ugly virus.

Thank you Angela for taking in this adorable soft hearted furkid. At least he knew the love that we had to give him in the last days of his life. He will forever hold a place in our hearts.

Candy
(Died 3/26/09)

Candy was found stray in Hood county and was obviously pregnant. No one came for her so she was on the euthanasia list. CCHS made the 2 hour drive to get her and bring her to safety. She was HW positive and skinny, but on the road to recovery.

After having her babies, she had complications which resulted in an emergency spay. None of her puppies made it, but we thought she was going to pull through... then she took a turn for the worst. We decided to do a blood transfusion in a last effort to save her. She did great for two days and the on day three, she crashed again. An x-ray revealed that her abdomen was filled w/ blood and she had a bullet lodged in her side that had gone undetected in previous exams.

At this point it was the vets recommendation that we humanly euthanize her because it was no longer in her best interest to let her suffer any longer.

Little Candy is gone but not forgotten. Thank you Robin for taking such good care of her right up until her last moments.

Jax was a happy fun loving little guy. He was found stray and brought to the Ft Worth shelter. He was pulled into the CCHS adoption program when his time was up.

Soon later he was adopted to a wonderful home where he was given all the love and attention that any doggie could ever want. A week later he was admitted to the hospital with Parvo and two weeks after that he started having seizures and died of distemper.

This poor baby, suffered at the hands of two highly contagious and lethal viruses. He died knowing he was loved and cared for in more ways than he could ever imagine.

Thanks Melissa Lemmon and her family for taking him under their wing and giving him all the care, love and attention he deserves. Thank you to the family that adopted Jax and showed him unconditional love during the last weeks of his life.

He had a terrible case of kennel cough that worsened as the days passed by. He was admitted for pneumonia less than a week after home treatment proved unsuccessful. He spent 5 days in hospital care before passing on the morning of the 1st.

Robbie
(Died June 10, 2009)

Robbie (aka Blackie) was owner surrendered to the Collin County Animal Shelter. He was a classic case of neglect and proved to be too much for this family to handle (even though they left outside 24/7).

He was set to be euthanized due to lack of space when CCHS stepped up to take him in. The shelter did his neuter and CCHS took care of his HW treatment. He made it through all his vetting and was adopted by a vet a month later.

He was an angel in foster care (his foster mom even considered adopting him). She lives on acreage that is devoted to Rotties only with no men around (which we soon found out were his vice).

Within a week it was clear that Robbie could not handle living in the average home. After he attacked 3 people and a dog, the city was involved and our options were very limited. After a long and tenuous debate it was decided that it was in everyone's best interest to have him humanly euthanized before any further harm was done to him or anyone else.

The neglect he suffered the first years of his life got the best of him and he proved to be too unpredictable to safely rehabilitate and re-home.

This decision was not taken lightly and we cannot thank everyone enough for all they did to help give him the best last days of this life. Toni (his foster mom) a HUGE thanks goes out to you for all you did for him. He knows he was loved due to the kindness you showed him while he was in your care. Thank you to Coppell Animal Shelter for donating their services in order to have his remains preserved in his memory.

Hank
(Died 6/06/09)

Little Hank was found stray and brought to the Arlington Shelter. He was soon later scooped up by a CCHS volunteer and brought into foster care.

He had applications lined up to take him home, and his foster mom decided on the perfect family to give him the best home possible! They had recently lost their previous dog to a rare and unexpected illness so they wanted a puppy to have for many years to come.

A couple months later we received a call that they had rushed him to the vet first thing in the morning when they awoke to him being unconscious. After many tests and much debate it was decided to do surgery to try and stop the internal bleeding that had began to worsen.

Unfortunately it was too late for Hank. He died on the table of a rare blood clotting disease that caused his body to not be able to coagulate his blood. He died of internal bleeding and was laid to rest on the 6th of June.

Thank you to the Wilson family for taking in Hank and giving him a wonderful last few months of life! Thank you to Lindsay and Brad for getting him from the shelter and taking care of him until his forever home was found.

Hank will truly be missed by all.

Ty
(Died 07/12/09)

Ty was found stray and brought to the Collin County Shelter. No one ever came for him so his time was up! He was brought into the CCHS adoption program where we awaited a forever home.

He was brought directly to the vet from the shelter for his neuter and vaccinations. It was at this time that it was discovered that he had a severe heart murmur. One of the CCHS volunteers, Paulette,  stepped up to donate the money to help pay for the EKG/vetting to help save his life!

It was discovered that he had an inoperable heart defect that dramatically shortened his life expectancy to a max of 4 years. Without anything further that we could do, Dr's advised that meds, later in life, and low exercise level were all we could do to help him.

Hoping for the best, he was released from the hospital the next day and things took a turn for the worst. He soon began vomiting and having diarrhea late at night. He was brought to the vet first thing in the morning where he tested positive for Parvo. He was admitted, put on an IV and the Dr gave him less than a 50 50 chance of survival based on his inability to filter the IV and meds through his blood stream.

Ty died early the next morning from the virus. Many people were instrumental in doing all they could to help Ty make it this far... thanks to Paulette for the monetary donations on his behalf. Thanks to Denise and her family for taking him in and showing him the love and attention that he deserved. Thank to Dr Thedford for all the extra hours she put in after hours trying to help save his life.

Ty, you were a very hansom boy with all the chips stacked against you. You fought long and hard during your short 5 months of life, but are glad that you are no longer suffering and onto a better place. We wish you a safe trip to the Rainbow Bridge.

Summer and her Babies...
(Summer and one pup died on 08/03/09)
(Three Pups died on 08/04/09)

Summer, her friend, and their collective  EIGHTEEN (yes, 18) puppies were being forced by their owners to live under their trailer home, on top of an aunt hill (literally sleeping and living in the midst of the aunts).

The trailer of the people who "owned" this family was being re-possessed (shocking as they sound so very classy), so they then dumped all of them at the Collin County Animal Shelter.  Another group stepped up for the mom and her 12 babies while Summer and her 6 puppies waited for help ... but no one came.

They were there for so long that Mama Summer accidentally killed one of her babies by stepping on her in the run at the shelter ... so she was down to 5 puppies.  (And if you think these Mama dogs aren't as tuned into their babies as humans, you need to spend some time with them - this was torture for her!)

She was put on the euthanasia list and CCHS stepped up at the last minute to get them! One had a large abscess on his neck, another had one on her face and they were all covered in pustules from the ant bites.  After a week in foster care they were all gaining weight, their skin was clearing up and they seemed to all be on the mend!

It was at this time that they were diagnosed w/ coccidia, guiardia and then Summer started limping. The limping soon turned into involuntary muscle spasms... eventually progressing into full blown seizures. In a matter of 4 days Summer and one of her babies were unable to function.

With a heavy heart the decision was made to euthanize one of the puppies and mama in the morning of Aug 3rd, 2009. On Aug 4th, the foster mom awoke to one of the puppies already dead and the other two not far behind. They too were taken in the be put to sleep. May they rest in peace knowing that they were loved and cared for up until their last minutes.

Say a prayer for the last puppy who is still battling the virus daily...

The last of Summer's Babies...
Harry Potter (aka Lil Pup)
(Died 08/25/09)

The poor little guy had many many ups and downs through his short life. We really thought he was going to pull through as the worst was behind us... but over the past weekend he took an unexpected turn for the worst.

We had to make the heartbreaking decision to put our little man to sleep today:( The decision was not taken lightly, but we felt we were being selfish in keeping him alive when his suffering was evident. His head was shaking in such a way that he would hit it against the ground. His neck was so exhausted from all the twitching that when we picked him up he just went limp and laid his head back like a new born baby because he had no strength left to hold his head up. We gave him valium to help ease his pain so we could get him through the day until my husband was able to get home early to say his good byes. He fought a long hard battle with an ugly virus. We had many many ups and downs and we really thought he had reached a point where he was on the road to recovery. Little did we know, the worst was yet to come:(

He will be missed in more ways than he probably knows. It gives me some peace to know that he is with his mama and siblings now and of course that he is no loner in constant pain. We did everything we could to help them make it though this, but unfortunately we couldn't do enough to save his life.  Thank you all for your support, donations and well wishes. It has been a heartbreaking journey with a devastating ending... but we must move forward as there are many many other dogs and puppies in need of our help.

We love you little man and will miss you so very very much...

Brady
(Died 09/06/09)

Brady was owner surrendered to CCHS after his mom was done care for him at 5 weeks of age. He was in horrible condition... malnourished (weighing in at 1.5 lbs), covered in pustules, and was to weak to eat on his own. He had to be force fed for the first two weeks and was on an IV.

As his pustules began to heal, he took a turn for the worse as he started showing neurological signs of distemper. He spend the night in the ER, was given the New Castle vaccination by Dr Wright, and then transferred to our vet in Plano where he spend the rest of the weekend under 24 hour Dr's care.

His tremors quickly turned into full blown seizures and the Dr made the call Sunday at 11am to humanely put him to sleep.

Thank you to Tressa and her family as well as Karen and her family for taking such good care of him and giving him all the love that he deserved during his last days with us.

He was such an adorable little guy with the deck stacked against him from day one. He is now at peace. Little Brady will never be forgotten.... in our hearts and memories he will live on.

Donny
(Died 09/22/09)

Donny and his siblings were dumped on the side of the road. Animal Control found them and took them to the local shelter where they waited for someone to claim them. No one ever came so they were split up into foster homes.

Donny and Marie both had upper respiratory infections and were put on antibiotics immediately. His sister pulled through but his cold progressively worsened over the weeks to come. It was soon evident that is wasn't a URI, but something much more sinister...Distemper.

We fought for 10 weeks... but in the end the disease won. On 9/22 we made the hard decision to put him to sleep so he would be able to rest. At this time he had not been able to eat on his own for 16 days and he had hardening of the lungs and neurological damage.

Donny was such a sweet boy and will truly be missed. We know he is in a better place now and we will remember him always and forever.

Timmy
(Died 09/25/09)

Timmy was found stray w/ an electrical cord tied to his collar that had been chewed through. We can assume that he was being tethered to something via the cord and he was able to chew through it to get lose. his ears were so badly matted that he had to be sedated to shave them to the skin w/o hurting him. He was HW+ too.

Timmy seemed to be making great progress in foster care! His coat was growing in nicely and he was treated for his HWs. He was easy to crate train and housetrain... but soon he started showing signs of a common trait w/ cockers called "Cocker Rage." This is where they turn on people viciously and w/o warning.

After 5 altercations (two of which results in serious bite wounds) it was decided that it was in his best interest to be humanely put to sleep before he harmed someone further... or seriously injured a child.

The decision was not taken lightly. We contacted several trainers and consulted a variety of vets. Although it was a heartbreaking call to make, we knew we were doing what was best for him and his future.

May you lay in peace Timmy. We are sorry that you had such a rough upbringing and we wish we were able to help you see that people are good. we hope you had a safe journey to the other side and were laid to rest knowing that you were cared for in more ways than you can ever imagine.

Daffodil
(Died 09/26/09)

Sweet little Daffodil is a tiny, little angel.  Here is her story:

Daffodil was picked up by Animal Control and brought into the county shelter. The shelter placed her on the Euthanasia List and deemed her unsalvageable – and yes, it’s true she was in a very sad and sorry state. CCHS has our own little Angel Dede, who visits this particular shelter regularly, walks the rows, over and over, checking to make sure precious babies like Daffodil don’t get overlooked; and low and behold, she spotted Daffodil and got on the phone!

When the foster mom went to pick up Daffodil, she was huddled in the corner of the kennel, limp and lifeless. She was so filthy and matted, we couldn’t tell her, age, sex, or breed. She quietly approached her and knelt down beside her and offered her a hand to sniff. She slowly sniffed and then started wagging her tail and giving kisses. Well, that was all it took – she wrapped her in a towel and they were out of there!

Next stop, the groomers. CCHS has a wonderful Den of Angels at the MUTT PUDDLE in Mckinney, who takes care of our Fur Foster Babies with gentle, loving care. Daffodil was full of fleas, ticks, matts, dirt, twigs, stickers and burrs from head to foot. They pampered her like a Princess and handed her back to me several hours later, as pretty as a peach J

After that, we did an assessment, discovered, Daffodil is young, is a little girl, as cute as a bug’s ear; but, sadly very malnourished and underweight. She weighs about 5 pounds. She needs to double her body weight to a healthy 10 lbs.

Daffodil is a sweet, gentle, calm quiet little soul. She seems to understand what her foster mom was doing for her and is forever grateful and loyal and always by her side. All she wanted from this world is to love and be loved.

Little Daffodil had to be shorn to the skin; however, in time it will grow back into a cute “Maltipoo do” in no time. Her tail has been broken in two different places, so know it spirals like a little piglet. Worst of all, sweet Daffodil had her skin flayed off her back leg from the weight of the matts - it literally torn the skin off her leg. Needless to say she needed lots of TLC.

Soon later she was adopted and we thought she had found the light at the end of the tunnel. A couple months later we received a call that she wasn't doing well (vomiting, seizures, anorexic and lethargic). By the time the adopters were able to get her to a vet it was too late. The vet decided it was in her best interest to be humanely put to sleep.

What never fails to astound us, is the capacity these rescued doggies have to love and to trust after the suffering they have endured. This little girl would sit in her foster mom's lap for hours on end wanting nothing more than to be held. Her heart is as big as Texas... and she will forever be in our hearts, memories and thoughts.

Thank you Robin W for taking her in and giving her all the love, attention, affection and care that this little girl deserved.

He was found as a stray by the city shelter, and had obviously been out on his own for quite some time because his fur was completely matted and you could count all of the bones in his body. His time was up and CCHS brought him into their foster care to make sure this little guy finds the best home that he deserves. We had him completely shaved because his hair was so matted and it was even affecting the way he was walking.

He was doing great in foster care and was adopted only a couple weeks after getting into the CCHS adoption program! He was doing great in his new home for the first 10 days and then he started taking a turn for the worst. He had a rash and a fever... it was suspected that he got into something and was having an allergic reaction. They rushed him to the ER and held tight as they worked their magic.

He seems to be on the mend but they the following week he began a rapid decline. He stopped eating and his fever spiked again. His weight dropped rapidly on his already frail body leaving nothing but skin and bones. Soon he began having seizures and it was decided at this point that it was in his best interest to humanely put him to sleep.

Little Gumdrop will not be forgotten. Thank you Meredith and her family for taking in this little guy and to the Trank family for taking him into your home and giving him all the love and affection he deserved.

Chloe
(Died 10/12/09)

Chloe was found starving, soaking wet, covered in fleas and cold on the side of 380. She was taken in by one of the CCHS foster homes and given her first good meal in days... possibly ever.

She seemed to be doing well, her energy was up and she ate every last lick of her bowl. However, by day 5 in foster care her interest in food stopped and she became very lethargic. She was taken to the vet and tested for parvo and ran a fecal. The results were both negative but she was dehydrated so they admitted her to the hospital and immediately put her on an IV for the weekend.

We received a call Monday morning that she had began having slight seizures the night prior and was found deceased by morning. We have no idea what caused her demise... we we do know that at least she did not die on the side of the road in the cold rain.

Thank you Cheryl for taking her off the streets. Thank you to Lori and Brendan for taking her into foster care and giving her lots of love and attention.

Although she wasn't with us long, she will always be in our hearts, prayers and memories. Rest in Peace Chloe.

Tator Tot
(Died 2/10/10)

Tator Tot came to CCHS from a country shelter that doesn't get much foot traffic. He was just a tiny little guy weighing it at 9lbs! He was quickly adopted and spent the next 6 months in a forever home until mysterious seizures began occurring.

The vets were unable to detect what caused the seizures... but this once sweet, loving, and cuddly little guy became fearful of everyone. He needed to be muzzled and was showing signs of brain damage.

It was decided that it was in his best interest to be humanely euthanized as it was evident that he was suffering. The adoptive family brought him to our vet for euthanasia on the evening of Feb 10th.

The cause of his seizures is still unknown, but he was able to pass to the other side at peace. He will be missed but never forgotten.

Thank you to Robin and her family for taking him in as a foster and giving him a chance to live out the last months of his life.

Dylan
(Died 3/26/2010)

Dylan was owner surrendered to a local shelter in horrendous condition. A CCHS foster took him in and spent the next 3 months trying to get him back on track.

He was a senior dog with sever mange, warts covering his body, and he was emaciated. After almost 3 months in foster care his hair growth had not progressed and his condition seemed to worsen (lack of coordination and only a weight gain of 11 lbs).

Just a few weeks ago, we found out that he also had a thyroid problem. We thought this would be the start of a new recovery path for Dylan with that diagnosis (and proper medication) his weight and hair should start improving soon!

Two weeks later Dylan became very ill. He had no appetite and was defecating while laying down. He was taken to the ER and put on IVs, heavy antibiotics and cage rest. 48 hour later it was decided that Dylan would be better of being humanly put to sleep as he was clearly suffering.

Dylan lived the best last three months of his life in the care of his foster mom Dede. He received more love and attention than he could have ever imagined in his years being chained to the backyard of his previous owners home.

We thank Dede and her family for giving him a wonderful end to his life. We wish you well Dylan and hope you are onto a better, happier life.

Baxter
(Born 2007 - Died April 15, 2010)

Baxter was found in horrendous condition on the side of the road. He had been hit by a car and was emaciated. He spent a week in the shelter before he was set to be put to sleep. CCHS stepped up to save him in his last hours.

Baxter turned up HW positive too. He was neutered, treated for the HWs, and his leg was tended to. We thought he was on the road to recovery until he began showing signs of distemper. He was rushed to the vet and pumped w/ fluids and meds.

Within 10 days of his initial "ticks" he began having seizures and progressed to a point that the brain damage was irreversible. On April 15, it was decided that it would be in his best interest to be humanely put to sleep.

Thank you Lori and Brendan for bringing this gentle soul into your home and giving him the best last months of his life.
